The medallion of this relief features the emblematic portrait of Cervantes painted by Juan de Jáuregui y Aguilar in 1600: the famous silhouette of the writer with his large strawberry, long moustache and solemn, three-quarter stance. Another example of this relief by Miguel Blay is known to us, although it has not been located. This is the relief the artist presented in 1914 to his friend Luis de Errazu, who created the Duque de Berwick y de Alba Foundation to commemorate the centenary of Don Quixote.
