Marie SERRUYA (1991) - Lot 282

Marie SERRUYA (1991) "Arcimboldo", 2018 Terracotta modeling, oil paint and acrylic. Unique piece. Subject size: 14 x 8 x 12 cm (accidents and restorations) A meeting with Japanese artist Toru Hamada marked a turning point in Marie Serruya's creations. Self-taught, he advised her to reproduce the works of the greatest masters in order to perfect her skills, which she followed in her own way. The process of modeling, which she painstakingly carried out with her grandmother's nail file, oil painting and/or enameling, enabled her to develop her own techniques through the observation of major works. A long series followed. The sculpture shown here is based on a work by the painter Arcimboldo.
