French school circa 1770, entourage of Joseph BOZE (1745-182 - Lot 132
French school circa 1770, entourage of Joseph BOZE (1745-1826) Portrait of a gentleman wearing a light suit, ruffled shirt and powdered hair tied with a black ribbon, leaning against the back of an armchair. Miniature on vellum. Gilded brass medallion with pearls. 3.3 x 2.8 cm (view) With its refined execution and great sense of detail, this work testifies to the refinement of miniatures under the Ancien Régime. It closely resembles the style of Joseph Boze, whose precision of drawing it shares, particularly in the rendering of the buttonhole. The model, an elegant young man in a light-colored suit, is depicted naturally, with his left arm resting on the back of an armchair in the lower right-hand corner of the composition.
