[Theater]. Collection of 27 plays or poems from the eighteen - Lot 280
[Theater]. Collection of 27 plays or poems from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries:
- [Manuscript] [Copy?]. Odet Daidie. Drama in five acts and prose. [1] blank f., [63] f., brown ink, unbound.
Louis XI fears his brother the Duc de Berry (1472), and this prince is poisoned by a Benedictine monk named Favre Vésois, his confessor. This is not one of those equivocal poisonings adopted without proof by the malignant credulity of men: the Duc de Berry was supping between the dame de Montsorau, his mistress, and his confessor; the latter had a peach of singular size brought to them: the dame died immediately after eating it; the prince, after cruel convulsions, died after some time.
Odet Daidie, a brave lord, wants to avenge the dead man, to whom he had always been attached. He led the poisoning monk away from Louis, to Brittany. His trial was held at liberty, and on the day the monk was to be sentenced, he was found dead in his bed.
