[Curiosa]. [CAILLAUX]. [GENÊT (Jean), attributed to]. Twenty - Lot 252
[Curiosa]. [CAILLAUX]. [GENÊT (Jean), attributed to]. Twenty lithographs for a book I read. Paris, 1945. In-4, leaves, lined jacket (splits at spine). First edition. Preface and poems, anonymous, attributed to Jean Genêt. 8 of [20] original lithographs by Roland Caillaux. Most of the filled-in leaves, containing a poem and then a lithograph, have been cut off, leaving only the text leaf. We enclose photocopies of the missing lithographs. Edition of 115 copies on Rives vellum (no. 73). A reprint of this work, in square in-12 format, without the poems and with the lithographs reproduced in facsimile, was published in 1996 by Gay Kitsch Camp. According to these publishers, the text of the preface is by Jean Genet, as are the 19 poems, which unquestionably relate to Notre-Dame des fleurs, published in 1943. Genet never acknowledged authorship of these poems. As for the preface, it contains some of Jean Genet's favorite themes.
