Seven-leaf painted canvas screen depicting a lakeside with a - Lot 287
Seven-leaf painted canvas screen depicting a lakeside with a few sailboats on the water, a wooded path animated by characters, a horseman watching over a herd of cows drinking, an openwork balustrade delimiting the landscape on the front. Mounted on a cream-painted wooden frame. On the back, a series of fourteen oval lakescapes surrounded by stenciled orange arabesques. French work, circa 1830. (restorations and repaints) Size of sheet: 170 x 55 cm The decoration on our panel can be compared to the work of Ph. de La Salle, designer and ornamentalist of silk weaving motifs between 1723 and 1804, known for his brilliantly executed floral, bird and arabesque decorations; unfortunately, Ph. de La Salle never appears in the official commissions of the Garde Meuble de la Couronne. Cf. musée des tissus de Lyon.
