MARYAN (1927-1977) - Lot 200
MARYAN (1927-1977) Figure, 1970 Ink and watercolor on paper, signed lower left and dated. Plaque on back: Association "La peau du chat 1967" 42. 40 x 30 cm (view) (tears, small missing parts). Founded by Carlota Charmet in 1958, the association La Peau du Chat, with the aim of acquiring works of art, is indicative of the aesthetic currents that emerged in the 1960s, notably that of Figuration Narrative. In reference to the collectors' association La Peau de l'Ours, which at the turn of the century set itself the goal of acquiring works and circulating them among its members, before reselling them at auction ten years later, La peau du chat enabled the promotion of young artists, by acquiring their works and distributing them among the associates. It has bought nearly 400 works from a hundred artists, including Hervé Télémaque, Ernest Pignon-Ernest, Erró, Henri Cueco, Joël Kermarrec, Peter Klasen and Maryan.
