Gérard SANDOZ (1902-1995) - Gustave-Roger SANDOZ (1867-1943) - Lot 70
Gérard SANDOZ (1902-1995) - Gustave-Roger SANDOZ (1867-1943). Art Deco period. A rare and moving curved brooch plate in 800 °/00 silver, with a general shape of two flat rectangles, staggered and intertwined, covered with an abstract and geometric decoration in red or black lacquer, alternating crushed or powdered eggshell motifs and simple mirror-polished figures playing with curves and light. Signed and numbered. In case. Gross weight: 17.1 g - Dimensions: 5.5 x 3 cm. Probably created on the eve of the creation of the Union des Artistes Modernes, from which it takes its color codes, this poetic brooch bears witness to the path taken by abstraction since Hoffmann's Palais Stoclet. This movement, which was not halted by the outbreak of World War II, gathered all the crafts of the hand and the mind around its modernity. Entire families of recognized artists, spanning several generations, such as the Sandoz, Fouquet or Templier families, have succeeded, in our field of jewelry as in others, in synthesizing the technical perfection of their parents with the creative spirit of their children. Unfortunately for us, Gérard Sandoz was only active for ten years, before turning to cinema in 1932; his creations, in this state and in their original case, are therefore as rare as they are precious.
