Alicia Penalba 1913 - 1982 Modernist brooch in 750°/00 gold. Monogrammed AP and numbered 3. Master stamp. Circa early 1970s. Weight: 65.60 g. Dimensions: approx. 7 cm x 8 cm. Alicia Penalba, (1913-1982) sculptor, born in Argentina, studied fine arts in Buenos-Aires, and at the turn of the 1940s, she obtained a grant from the French government and moved to Paris, where she attended the Beaux-Arts engraving course. She made friends with many artists, but it was in Zadkine's studio that she finally found her calling. In 1957, she exhibited at Galerie du Dragon, then in 1960 at Claude Bernard. In 1961, she won the International Sculpture Prize at the Sao-Paulo Biennial. She exhibited all over the world, including New York, Rio, Rome and Milan. Curious and passionate, she tried her hand at ceramics, jewelry and tapestries. Her creations found their way into the collections of the most prestigious museums, and her work was acclaimed in 1977 by a major retrospective at the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris.
