TABRIZ (Persia), early 20th century. A brick-red field with - Lot 178
TABRIZ (Persia), early 20th century. A brick-red field with flowering and leafy stems supports a pastel star-shaped floral rosette, crowned by exuberant, pistachio-ornamented petals. The decoration is completed by two imposing pendants in the form of suspended oil lamps and four spandrels taking up a quarter of the central decoration. Three polychrome counterborders with garlands of flowers frame the main navy, where ruby cartouches and small poly-lobed pistachio medallions, decorated with floral forms with crosses pattées (Armenian), are placed on flowering stems. The decoration is reminiscent of the "d'Ardebil" carpet in the victoria and Albert Museum in London. 293 x 199 cm.
